The second phase of Cranberry’s plan for the Rt. 228 corridor includes a flyover bridge from the I-79 north exit, crossing above Rt. 228, along with a direct connector road from the flyover to Cranberry Woods Drive. A large mound of dirt near the current highway exit, already largely in place, would provide some of the elevation for the bridge’s southern end.
At its September 1 meeting, Cranberry’s Board of Supervisors authorized a contract with Mackin Engineering for preliminary design and permitting work for the flyover and loop ramp leading up to it. That preliminary design will then position the Township to hold further discussions with PennDOT and the Federal Highway Administration concerning details of the Township’s 228 plans.
