A sales agreement for the single largest parcel of property needed to build the Northwest Connector – a 2,300 foot extension of Heights Drive eastward to Rt. 19 – has now been approved. On November 3, the Township’s Board of Supervisors approved the acquisition for $174,187. The property, sold to Cranberry by the Deener family, will allow the much-anticipated road project to advance to the construction stage next year, with completion expected by fall of 2012. An easement required by PennDOT to provide the shoulder and guiderail for a new right turn lane from the southbound lanes of Rt. 19 onto Heights Drive Extension, is currently under negotiation with the owner of a residential property along Rt. 19 immediately north of the point where the new road will intersect the highway. Eventually, that intersection will become signalized, according to the Township’s Engineering Department. Various traffic calming measures along Heights Drive, previously negotiated with local homeowners, will also be put in place at that time.
